AME 54535 - Energy Systems
This course is a modified version of AME 50435 Energy Systems that has been taught on campus several times mainly to seniors in AME and in other engineering departments. The modifications for AME 54535 will (a) enable juniors and others to take it, and (b) adapt to the conditions of a Fall semester in London. This course is for all engineering majors interested in the engineering aspects of energy, and will be self-contained in terms of the necessary background. Topics will include brief introductions to the energy sciences, historical background, renewable and sustainable energy, environmental engineering, water management,and relation of energy engineering to other disciplines. The bulk of the course will be on sources of energy, its generation, transformation, storage, usage, and common engineering hardware. The basic engineering of conventional (fossil fuels, hydroelectric, nuclear) and alternative (solar, ocean, wind, hydrokinetic, geothermal) energy will be discussed.
